“In 2018, we began sourcing syrah from the Fore Family vineyard in the Red Hills of Lake County. This vineyard is an extreme high-elevation vineyard located at 3000’ elevation at the top of Cobb Mountain. As a high elevation vineyard, it produced smaller berries with thicker skins producing the most intense syrah that we’ve ever produced. Coming from the Cote-Rôtie clone Syrah Clone 1 and co-fermented with viognier, our wine exhibits an extreme dark color in the glass similar to that of Guigal’s “La La” wines. On the nose, the wine exhibits dark fruit flavors mixed with exotic black and red fruits and earthy mineral notes. On the palate, this wine explodes with dark blackberry and dark currant fruit leading to a full-body mouth experience. Firm tannins from the high-elevation fruit support the wine through the finish with lingering dark fruit with a hint of smoked meat and cedar. This wine is quite “tight” and needs 1-2 years in the cellar and can be enjoyed for the next 10-12 years.”
