2009 Thompson Syrah
Santa Barbara County
In 2009, the Thompson Vineyard was hit hard by frost. Even though our block is on a slope, the old vine block produced only about 1 ton per acre, leaving us with much less fruit, but, the fruit we did get was some of the best ever. The fruit was dark with intense flavors which exhibits a dark, purple color in the glass with big dark, plum fruit in the nose. On the palate, our 2009 Thompson Syrah is big and jammy up-front with dark blackberry fruit with earthy notes and sweet tobacco, incense, smoke and vanilla leading into a long 60+ second finish. This is a big wine. Enjoy this wine over the next 9-12 years.

Accolades & Awards
"Bright and brambly, with copious black and blue fruits, underbrush, wild herbs, and a meaty undercurrent, the 2009 Thompson Vineyard is a full-bodied, richly textured effort that has a layered mid-palate, juicy acidity, and a clean finish. As with the other Syrahs, it is an approachable, transparent effort that will shine for 7-8 years or so."

"A bouquet of blackberries, plums, spice, and vanilla greets the senses. A sip reveals flavors of bramble fruit and plum along with lively notes of pepper and smokey oak. A rich, robust wine that's supple, dark and spicy, fans of Syrah will enjoy this bottle very much."
